Criteria for Eligibility to Become a Certificant of the
Canadian Society of Addiction Medicine
- Graduation from a Medical School approved by the Committee of Accreditation of Canadian Medical Schools and the Liaison Committee of Medical Education of the United States; and/or hold a license in good standing with a provincial or territorial licensing authority.
- Successful completion with a passing grade of the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) examination, ABAM or the International Society of Addiction Medicine (ISAM) examination.
- Have been a member in good-standing of the Canadian Society of Addiction Medicine (CSAM) for two years preceding application.
Pathway A
Holds a certificate from one of the following three:
Professional Corporation of Physicians of Quebec
Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada
College of Family Physicians of Canada
AND Evidence of successful completion of one year full time involvement or 50% over two years in the field of Addiction Medicine.
Pathway B:

Evidence of successful completion of one year full time involvement or 50% over two years in the field of Addiction Medicine

Attended the Canadian Society of Addiction Medicine Annual Meeting, or its equivalent, for the two years prior to certification and show evidence of annual completion of a minimum of 25 hours of Continuing Medical Education credits in Addiction Medicine for each of the preceding two years prior to certification.

Have been a member in good-standing of the Canadian Society of Addiction Medicine (CSAM) for two years preceding application.
The cut-off for Certification applications is three months prior to the CSAM Annual meeting. For 2012 the deadline to submit is July 1, 2012. For additional information on certification, and to download an application form, please click the following link:
